NDA inaugurates First Female Professor
NDA Inaugurated Its First Female Professor
In our world today, the women are, nearly, are defined as 'nothing-but-women' whereby they're hardly seen or duely recognized in the society. Most times, vital positions are being shared with no or little recognition, going towards their court. Hence, this has been one of the reasons why they're 'fighting' for gender-equality. They feels to be given what they deserves, without being forced under the carpet just because they're women. They feels that the notion of the women inferiority, and the general view of being less active should be changed and trampled down.
While some spheres of works are adapting to the tone in handing over some crucial responsibilities to them, some still do not see the importance or the need to do that.
However, The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA)has joined the women-recognition-motion by inaugurating its first female Professor. She is Francisca Onyenelum Ugwueleka, a renowned professor of Computer Sciences and Dean, Faculty of Military Science and Interdisciplinary Studies at the Academy. Professor Ugwueleka who was born in 1974 at Enugu has garnered a vast teaching experience, having lectured at Federal University Wukari, Madonna University, University of Abuja and Federal University of Technology, Minna, among other institutions.

Presenting 13th Professorial Inaugural Lecture titled "Redefining the Future Through Big Data and Artificial Intelligence" at the Joseph Garba Hall, Ribadu Campus, Ugwueleka evaluated the opportunities artificial intelligence and big data offer towards a sustainable future. This is particularly in the areas of environment, diplomacy, transportation, training and healthcare.
She is seen to be right-fit for this responsibility, despite being the first of her kind to overtake such position. "Her lecture also dwelt on the symbiosis between these two fields, their impact on finance, agriculture, security, cyber security, communication and defence, and how Nigeria could benefit from expanding the scope of its citizens in the acquisition of such knowledge."
Commandant NDA, Major General Jamil Sarham, while speaking at the event, affirmed the Academy's resolve towards facilitating many of such lectures during the current academic session. He disclosed that "NDA is committed to providing ,among other things, a rigorous intellectual standard for it's cadets and post graduate students".
The Special Guest of Honour, Air Vice Marshall Christopher Okoye, a former Deputy Commandant of the NDA, reinforced the importance of ICT, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. He noted that any society that chooses to ignore these important tools in the life of its citizens and the administration of society would only be doing so at its own peril.
